I fucking love collage art. I find visual juxtaposition so interesting, so I could look at collages all day. It was a happy day when I realised collages extended beyond primary school art lessons and into a world of genuine artistic sophistication. They can be beautiful and complicated, and raise legitimate questions about relationships and tensions in society. One artist I'm really into at the moment is Istanbul-based artist Merve Özaslan. Özaslan's art features vintage black-and-white found photographs combined with colourful images of nature. According to the artist's Tumblr, her art seeks to question the relationship between nature and humanity, reffering to the idea that each of us is inherently connected to nature. Her works aim to break apart the mundanity of every day life, and inject some colour into the black and white.
