*Not to be confused with Michael Pedersen, who stabbed his children to death in 2012 and came up first in the Google search, which was quite alarming.

Footprint (2017)

I came across the work of Michael Pederson on Tumblr (where I seem to come across most of my inspiration tbh) and I fell in love. I mean, look at this. Look. This really stopped me in my tracks. How beautiful is the idea of treating mundane and urban things that are probably considered ugly as pieces of work in a museum? How nice is the thought of giving a story to something forgotten or discarded?

Abandoned (2017)

Michael Pederson plays with Sydney's urban environment. His text works inject Sydney's mundane everyday with a humour and whimsy that's kind of magical, I think.

Daydream history plaques installed in various Sydney locations (2015)

Text attached to various dumped items on the edges of a parkland west of Sydney (2014)

Text hung in a local park on the weekend (2014)

Pederson's works give life to abandoned items, urban spaces, and even empty air. For me, the works are a like a physical representation of an almost child-like sense of imagination. There is a sense of melancholy about them, maybe a desire to travel beyond the mundaneness of everyday life.

Go look at the rest of his stuff on his Instagram and website.
